In the simplest sense, remission means forgiveness. 
 

Being now owned by God, He can literally do with you whatever He wants. And the first thing He does is to forgive you for all your sins, past, present and future.

 

The word "Remission" is a composite of two words, "Re" and "Mission." "Mission" from the Latin "missio" means “to send, dismiss, discharge.” "Re" means “again” or “away.” 

 

Remission then, means "to send away" so "remission of sins" means to send away our sins.

The Bible says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:12

 

The word "transgression" in this verse is translated from the Hebrew word "Pesha" and has several other meanings, namely: Guilt of Transgression, Punishment for Transgression, Rebellion.

 

Let's look at them one at a time:

 

In Remission God doesn't just remove your Sin but He removes the guilt of your Sin as well.

 

This means He truly makes you clean, even from the sense of having done wrong and the self-condemnation that goes with it. 

 

This is a very powerful thing because it's been discovered that a guilty person will often indulge in self-punishment if they cannot compensate the victim of their transgression.

 

And since there is no way for you to compensate God for offending Him a Christian who still feels guilty will subconsciously punish themselves thus opening a doorway for the enemy to exploit.

 

This is one of the reasons why sickness and poverty are so rampant in the Body of Christ.

 

Well-meaning preachers who don't know better preach their flocks into guilt and self-condemnation every Sunday morning by reminding them of their sins, while God has already permanently removed their sense of guilt as far as the east is from the west.

 

The only time you feel guilty is when the devil puts that guilty feeling on you and you ignorantly accept it as legitimate and coming from God.

 

The Holy Spirit does NOT convict you of sin!

 

He convicts the World of Sin...  John 16:8  He convicts the Christian of righteousness! Romans 8:1

This simply means that you are no longer in danger of God's judgement.

 

If He has removed the "Guilt" of your transgressions He must also have removed the consequences of your transgressions because God is perfectly Just.

 

Without guilt there can be no judgement!

 

If at the end of a murder trial the Jury declares, "Not Guilty" then the Judge says to the Defendant, ok now that you are declared not guilty you will be hung by the neck until dead, everyone will look at the Judge as crazy man.

 

Same thing here, Remission removes your sense of guilt along with the resulting consequences.

 

So, when the devil comes to oppress you with sickness and poverty, you can stand strong and say, "Satan, the LORD rebuke you!!!

He removes your rebellion.

 

God doesn't just remove your sense of guilt with it's consequences, He also removes the spirit of rebellion from you so you no longer WANT to do wrong.

 

This is an often overlooked attribute of salvation.

 

When God saves you He doesn't just forgive you for the sins you have committed and throw you back out there and says "good luck, hope you make it!"

 

He does a thorough job in you, cleansing you completely from any sense of the guilt then further removes your natural desire to rebel against Him.

 

The Born Again Christian is someone who has had their "want to" changed so that they no longer WANT TO SIN!

 

Your new desire is now to submit to and please the Lord in all that you do.

 

This is the result of remission and the more you bring your mind into alignment with this reality the more practical victory you experience and the more success you have.

 

"I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh... and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." Ezekiel 36:26-27

 

Another very important dimension to remission is the fact that you receive forgiveness for EVERY SIN at the time of salvation.

Jesus’ work affected all periods of time, the past, the present and the future; if this were not true He could not have said, “It is finished!” He would have had to say, “It shall be finished!”

His work affected the past because it reached back in time and freed the Old Testament saints like Abraham and Moses. 

The Bible says, “And the graves were opened;  and many bodies of the saints which slept arose. And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many,” Matthew 27:52  (See also, Ephesians 4:8)

It affected the present because He said to the thief on the cross, “Today,  you shall be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43

And, of course it affected the future because what He did two thousand years ago affects us today.

Right now... is the future in relation to the work of the cross which was done two thousand years ago.

Therefore, when you accept the work of the cross today it has the power to affect your future whether it’s tomorrow, next month, next year or one hundred years from now.

All your sins are forgiven... past, present and future! 

All of them are presently forgiven, in fact, they were all forgiven two thousand years ago at Calvary.

You merely received the forgiveness when you decided to repent.
